Kayli begins by shortening nails that have broken to different lengths. Clip small amounts from the free edge rather than trying to remove a large piece in one squeeze. Leave the attached nail and surrounding skin alone. Clean beneath the tips gently with a soft nail brush if needed. If your length is already even, skip trimming and go straight to shaping.

2. Smooth the free edge with a file
For gentle nail filing, use a fine or glass file to soften the corners and remove snags. Kayli files in one direction across the free edge instead of sawing aggressively back and forth. Check the shape after a few strokes so you do not shorten one side more than the other. Finish when the nail feels smooth against fabric; extra filing is unnecessary once the rough edge is gone.

3. Treat remover as an optional step
Kayli applies cuticle remover to loosen material on the nail plate. This step is optional. If you use it, follow the label’s amount, contact time and rinse instructions, and keep it off broken skin. Her discussion distinguishes material on the nail from the protective living skin around it. Do not use remover as a reason to scrape or cut that living border.

4. Keep any cleanup gentle and shallow
The video demonstrates a metal pusher, while Kayli recommends wood or rubber tools for beginners. Hold a tool nearly flat and use minimal pressure; never dig beneath the skin. For a simpler home routine, skip the scraping and trimming shown later and leave the protective skin intact. Stop if the area feels sore. Neat nails do not require removing every visible bit of skin.
5. Remove residue and wash your hands
Wipe away leftover product, then wash and dry your hands as the remover label directs. Kayli does not leave remover sitting on the fingers while she finishes the routine. Check around the nail edges for residue before adding cream. Give an irritated area a break instead of repeating the remover step. The next stage is moisture, not more scraping.
6. Massage cream and oil around the nail edges
Keep your cuticle moisturizing routine simple: spread hand cream over the fingers, then massage a small drop of nail oil around each nail. Kayli also moisturizes beneath the free edge where it feels dry. Keep the amount small enough to absorb without coating everything you touch. Reapply moisturizer after washing your hands as needed. This care step is easy to repeat without doing the full manicure again.
